5 Fingers is my story and tells of how I traced my roots from the West Coast of Africa to the dirt roads of Mississippi on just5 fingers. 5 Fingers tells the story of my ancestors on my Father’s side of the family. The 5 fingers that make up my handMore5 Fingers is my story and tells of how I traced my roots from the West Coast of Africa to the dirt roads of Mississippi on just5 fingers. 5 Fingers tells the story of my ancestors on my Father’s side of the family. The 5 fingers that make up my hand are: Mahulda my great-great-great grandmother who was born in West Africa. Mahulda had a daughter named Celey who was my great-great grandmother and was born into slavery. Celey had a daughter named Mary Alice which is great-grandmother who was born around the Civil War era. Mary Alice had a son named Wooster, my grandfather, who was born near the turn of the 20th Century. Wooster had a son named John Ralph, my father, who was born during The Great Depression. My father is the young man featured with the sack of sweet potatoes on his back. In a few pages you will see a brief bio and a life lesson on each character. My prayer is that this story touches anyone who reads this book no matter race, color or creed and shows that our stories maybe different, but we are connected through the human experience which is joy, love, pain and perseverance. My hope is that this story is read by children and families of different races, cultures and ethnicities and it will be a tool to bring us together, binding us by respect, love and a mutual understanding for each other.
